Culture Attack

Tharmilla Shaba and myself have created a wiki using wetpaint called “Culture Attack”, the link for this site can be found in the blogroll. As you can probably tell, this wiki is about culture- yours, mine, everybodies, and the idea is that each culture has a distinct flavour that can be brought to the table to be appreciated by others, for example South Asian culture could be mostly known for its food (no pun intended with the flavour description-honest). Tharmilla and I have laid the general foundation for the wiki so its up to YOU to add to this site. (We have added a couple of videos one of which is hilarious so please go check out the site)

AlphaMusic Master

Hey everyone,

It’s been awhile since my last post on this blog but I am back and will endeavor not to neglect this site any longer. I would like to say that I have created a social network which can be joined at www.alfamusicmaster.ning.com. This is a network that will hopefully cater to those who love listening to music (which I am almost certain is everyone) Therefore I would encourage you all to check it out and join the site to create your very own AlphaMusic Master page to pay homage to the music you love and get in touch with others who feel the same. I would like to add that because it is in a developmental stage (beta) any feedback on it would be much appreciated.

Oh!MyGoog RIP?

It has been brought to my attention that the site that I reviewed, Oh!mygoog, is no longer available for whatever reason, so I just wanted to say I am sorry that you cannot check it out. Also I wanted to reply to a comment posted by Heinz about the Oh!mygoog site- here is how it goes:

Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it. I, myself have looked for the Oh!mygoog site but cannot seem to find it anymore- I assure you it was there 3 weeks ago! I originally came by it via killerstartups.com as I was looking for a site to review for my university multimedia assignment. I will continue to look for it on your behalf and get back to you via this blog if I find it. So watch this space! Wish I could have given you more info on it but like I said I will let you know if I find it again. Once again thanks for the comment!

Oh!MyGoog page that I created

These are just print screens of the main processes I went through to create the final homepage complete with a Super Mario gadget in the center to play games when I wish. You can click on the thumbnails to make them bigger to get a clearer view of what I did and if that doesn’t help then you could always visit the site itself using the link in my blogroll (just scroll down to get to it) I know the homepage I created isn’t great but I was just experimenting to see if it would work and it does so if you feel up to the challenge make one that makes mine look shockingly bad.

At First Glance

Oh!MyGoog is a search engine powered by Google that enables users to personalise the Oh!MyGoog homepage. The homepage for the site is relatively plain, with a few images at the bottom of the screen. The first image shows us what the standard Oh!MyGoog homepage currently looks like, the next few images show what it could look like. In the right hand corner there is a link to customise the page, users who would like to personalise the page must click on this.

Getting Started

The page it accesses is also relatively plain and simple to look at. You can browse the internet to find an image that you would like to load onto the homepage everytime you access it. To be able to do this you must first copy and paste the URL of the image and paste it into the URL box, you can preview the page to see what it would look like once completed. Ideally you should find an image that might fit to the entire page for the best results but any image will suffice. You can also change the colour theme of the page but unfortunately it seems that you can only use two different themes, the default theme and the oh!mygoog colour theme. There is also another colour theme that may be used however, this is random and does not allow you to choose for yourself. Again you can preview the page and if satisfied you may save the changes; this means that everytime you access the Oh!MyGoog site, the page that you created will be the one on display.

Gadgets

At the bottom of the screen there are links to set your personally created page as your homepage and to also add google gadgets. By clicking on this you are directed to another page which allows the code for the gadgets to be input. Gadgets can be the date or time or even a mini music player. Once you have decided what gadgets you would like to install you click on the gadget to get to the code and then simply copy and paste into the space for the code on the previous page. Once this is done you can preview it. I added the game Mario to the homepage and now to play it all I have to do is click on it and I can play different levels of the the game.

Conclusion

This is a simple and easy site to use, nothing on this website is difficult to use or understand. Each link is self explainatory and is easily configured to do exactly what it said it would. The benefits of the ease of you use are that you do not have to be a computer genius to be able to customise the page to your specific wants and needs also the page is simple and not overtly crowded with useless information making it easy for the user to follow. The only disadvantage that I can see is that it does not have allow you to upload pictures of your own onto the site which i believe to be just a minor issue.
